Need I SAY MORE? AND YOU SAY NEW YORK CITY!

Disney Buys Marvel

According to the Wall Street Journal, Disney has agreed to a cash purchase of Marvel for $4 billion dollars. I wonder if this means that live action Marvel films will still be the movie Disney makes, or if they will start to transition certain comics into Pixar films. The possibilities are pretty much limitless right now.

R.I.P. DJ A.M.

Terrible news.

R.I.P. Reading Rainbow

If it wasn't enough that Michael Jackson passed away this year (and believe me that was enough for the next decade, thanks), another piece of my childhood died as Reading Rainbow aired its last episode today. I mean, really?!? 80's babies everywhere pour out a little liquor.

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Jackson's death ruled a HOMICIDE

From USA Today.com

The Los Angeles County coroner says Michael Jackson's death was a homicide primarily caused by two drugs.
In a statement released Friday, the coroner said the cause of death was acute intoxication from the anesthetic propofol. Other sedatives contributed to the death, most notably lorazepam.
The coroner did not release Jackson's full autopsy report, citing an ongoing security hold at the request of Los Angeles authorities.
Dr. Conrad Murray, the pop star's personal physician, told police he gave Jackson propofol the morning of June 25 after a series of sedatives failed to help Jackson sleep. Murray is the target of what police term a manslaughter investigation.
The 50-year-old Jackson died June 25 in Los Angeles.

Video: J. Cole-Simba

I like the way BBGun uses a steady cam shot the whole time. Pretty sweet video that probably cost nothing to make.

Things that make you go PAUSE...

So every Friday I will post a clip of something that warranted the use of everyone's favorite low-key call out "...Pause." This week's winner is Spike Lee getting paused by a host on MSG.

Inception Trailer

Here is the sick teaser trailer for Inception, the new Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Knight") film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It looks pretty sick.

Art Thursday

So, every Thursday I am going to feature photos of two pieces of art that I found and thought were interesting. Lemme know if you want to see anything in particular:

This week's picks are:

A New Era in hats started by Spike Lee

So I was checking out this article on the New Era hat company in The New York Times. The general tone of the article was pretty somber, due to the economy... but there was some interesting stuff in there. I'll give you the Reader's Digest version:

  • New Era makes 72,000 hats a week or 7 every minute
  • Sales are down even for Yankees has
  • The Yankees logo takes 2,688 stitches/Florida Marlins takes 10,966
  • Spike Lee started the trend of multicolored team hats when he called New Era for a red Yankee hat in 1996, rocked the shit out of it and the world has never been the same again (Papoose, Pa-Poose)

Wal-Mart's finest

Hey everybody, got linked to this off Facebook and I have to admit its pretty hilarious haha. You all know you've seen these people at your local Wal-Mart. I mean there are two mullets in this picture below, TWO:

Michael Jackson- Human Nature

Human Nature is my favorite Michael Jackson song. It's such a great song musically, sometimes lost in the shuffle of monster hits on Thriller. In addition, the video is sick in its 80's cartoonish style. I feel like I'm watching Reading Rainbow or something (What up, LeVar?) Of course if you know me at all, there will be a lot more MJ posts coming... as I was out of the blog game when all that terrible shit went down in June. For now, just kick back and enjoy:

Must See NYC

Each Wednesday, I will feature a rare picture of a celebrity in New York City. Most of these photos will be of great people before they became great, venturing out into Gotham for their first bite of real life.

This week's subject:

R.I.P. Senator Edward Kennedy

Let me hear one Fox News person (looking at you Hannity) spin this to make it seem like Obama is going to use this to get Health Care Reform a
sympathy vote. That's all I'm waiting for... Ted Kennedy was a true public servant,
flaws and mistakes aside. He worked his ass of for more than half of his days trying to get
good governing done and for that I salute him: Sláinte

Soul Train is going to become a film.

This is a movie I'd love to see, about the creation of Soul Train. Soundtrack should definitely be good. But who is going to play Don Cornelius?

Interesting Take on a movie about the Beatles, but not...

(Via Variety) Producer David Permut has acquired "A Life in the Day," a Tony Gittelson script about the life of Brian Epstein, who discovered and managed the Beatles from 1961 through 1967, when he died of a drug overdose at 32.

This guy basically heard the Beatles while on lunch and became the manager of the greatest rock/pop act in history. All I do for lunch is go to Subway... S M H.  Who knows if his death was a contributing factor in the turmoil and in-fighting that would haunt the group from 1967-1969. Should be an interesting biopic.

Jay-Z feat. Drizzy Drake- Off That (Produced by Timbaland)

OFF THAT Blueprint 3!
Jay-Z goes through a laundry lists of trends he is trying to kill. Pretty entertaining and the production has got that future feel that Timbo embraced on Shock Value. I dunno how y'all feel about BP3 tracks so far or 90s' Timbo v. 00's Timbo. But I cosign this track and my car stereo does too.

J. Cole's The Warm Up

This is easily my favorite mix-tape of the year. Even more so than Back to the Feature. Apparently Jay-Z agrees.
